Boerewors
Boerewors is a type of South African sausage and is a popular choice across South Africa, it’s also now a speciality enjoyed by many across the world. The word “boerewors” translates as “farmers sausage”, with the main ingredient being beef, venison, chicken or pork. Susmans Biltong beef boerewors are our best-sellers, with a few of the option to choose from peri peri, tomato, garlic or our original tasty flavour! To cook, we would recommend cooking in a frying pan with olive oil for 10 minutes on each side. Or for an extra South African experience, cook on a traditional braai for the ultimate outdoor cooking experience!
Droewors
Droewors is the ultimate South African snack food, based on the traditional boerewors sausage. Droewors is basically a dried version of Boerewors, with this South African food translating to “dry sausage”. What makes droewors different to boerewors is that it is air dried for 3 days to produce tender tasting meat, making a convenient snacking choice. What makes Susmans Biltong droewors extra unique is the fact it is spiced with a secret family recipe, giving it a tasty flavour like no other. What’s even better is no cooking is required to enjoy this meat snack, just simply take out the packet and enjoy!
Braai
A braai translates to “barbecue” or “roast” in South Africa and creates a real social event, bringing everyone together to enjoy some traditional South African food. Traditionally, us South Africans will braai no matter what the weather, using it as an opportunity to light up the fire and get cooking. You can cook so many different meats on a braai including boerewors (“farmer’s sausage”), chicken, pork, steak – just about any meat really! You can even cook a number of sides including jacket potatoes! You can even cook chicken on a beer can using the beer bird, an innovative cooking tool loved by many South Africans. To use, simply place an opened can of your favourite lager into the ring on the beer bird grid, wedge the open end into the cavity of a chicken and cook on your Big Green Egg, Covered Kettle or traditional Braai.
